Species: STEWARTITE Locality: Palermo Mine, Pod #3, N. Groton, NH Specimen Size: 0.5 mm cluster of stewartite crystals Field Collected: Forrest Fogg Catalog No.: u2361 Notes: A visual ID based on the steep termination and lemon yellow color. Stewartite, Mn2+Fe3+2(PO4)2OH2 · 8H2O , and Laueite, Mn2+Fe3+2(PO4)2(OH) · 8H2O are dimorphs (identical chemistry) and similar in morphology. Stewartite twins show small "fish-tail" re-entry angles. Fishtail twins (rear center) are present in this photo. Both stewartite and laueite are triclinic, biaxial(-). |
